I know it's an adaptation, but "The Boogeyman" makes it sounds like a bottom-of-the-bargain-bin DVD movie. But while far from original, this is a thoroughly well-crafted, at times thoughtful horror film. By far, this is one of the most frightening PG-13 movies I've seen.

The production design and special effects in The Boogeyman are decent but cannot salvage the movie's overall poor quality. Skinamarink is scary because it is immediately what it is. Mommy and daddy are gone, and their two children — Kaylee and Kevin — must fend for themselves in a house that has trapped them within it: doors, windows, and even the toilet disappearing (the fantasy of flushing oneself down the drain).

So when a movie such as “Black Panther” gets a certified “fresh” 97 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, we interpret it as a film that is near perfection, while a film such as last year's “The Emoji Movie” that lands around 9 percent, must be a steaming pile of garbage.

Jeepers Creepers: Reborn is neither as skilful nor scary as the 2001 original. It's a cheap knockoff, inferior in every way. Content collapsed. Neither slicing under the genre's surface, nor dicing the heritage well, this reboot is more an unseemly act of IP cannibalism.

The Boogeyman turns out to be a real demonic force, and Tim runs into the ghosts of the missing children taken by the demon. When the demon threatens the ones he loves, Tim decides to take action. BOOGEYMAN the movie is filled with scary scenes and scary supernatural encounters with the demonic title character.

Although The Boogeyman relied on clever jump scares and concealing the monster's design in dark areas, it delivered some intense sequences that had audiences on the edges of their seats. Like most successful monster movies, it knew how much to reveal without giving away too much.
